To increase security, the developer of the Bitcoin Lightning Network added more features to the hardware wallet, Blockstream Jade. It came just in time when diverse platforms have been upgrading their features.
The Blockstream Jade helps to keep the retrieval/recovery phrase for bitcoin and liquid wallets. The retrieval/recovery phrase functions allow temporary access to a wallet and the ability to sign and create transactions offline.
One of the features added, the Wallet-erase duress PIN, is based on keeping this retrieval/recovery phrase as private as possible.
The Wallet-erase duress PIN is a substitute/second PIN that you can implement that will automatically delete your recovery phrase from your Jade if used. This feature is helpful when there is a physical threat. In cases like this, this PIN can be given to the attacker, and your wallet will no longer be accessible via PIN.
In addition, it now supports scanning standard SeedSigner SeedQRs. Therefore, it is now possible to access your wallet by scanning the recovery phase in the Standard SeedQR format.
Compared to others, hardware wallets offer more security and reduce the risk of attack vectors. It is because passkeys required to spend assets are on a device distinctively made for them.
The hardware wallet effectively amplifies security by keeping passkeys offline. Users can include a passphrase used to create a duress wallet. They can authorise watch-only mode to accept funds when Jade is not present.
The creators added the Wallet-erase duress PIN on the 11th of August, 2022. Since then, the developers have not stopped adding more features; on the 23rd of the same month, they included the settings menu for uninitialised Jade units. They updated UI strings and liquid asset registry info and changed Emergency Restore to Recovery Phase Login.
The developers have kept adding new features to the delight of their community. These features are essential to the growth of the community.
