The city of Lugano, Switzerland is propelling forward in the digital currency realm, displaying its commitment during the recent PlanB conference held on October 20. The conference, which emphasized on escalating Bitcoin adoption in Lugano, witnessed profound discussions by a panel comprising city’s Mayor Michele Foletti, Tetragon CEO Pavel Matveev, and several other dignitaries associated with the PlanB initiative.

PlanB: Pioneering Bitcoin Adoption

Launched in September 2021, PlanB is a visionary initiative aimed at metamorphosing Lugano into a hotbed for Bitcoin and blockchain innovation. Over the span of two years, notable strides have been made to indoctrinate both the business fraternity and individuals in Lugano about the merits of Bitcoin and blockchain technology. The initiative has been instrumental in organizing educational summits, workshops, and a distinctive PlanB Summer School, which saw participation from students across 30 nations.

Lugano’s Bitcoin-pegged Stablecoin: LUGA

Lugano has heralded a novel Bitcoin-pegged stablecoin named Lugano (LUGA) that is gaining traction among the city’s merchants. With over 350 merchants accepting LUGA for payments, and around 20 percent of the city’s populace actively using Lugano Wallet, the digital currency scenario in Lugano is looking promising.

A Groundbreaking Move: Bitcoin for Tax Payments

Come December 1, Lugano is set to become one of the few cities globally to accept tax payments in Bitcoin. This move not only signifies Lugano’s progressive approach towards digital currency but also sets a precedent for other cities to emulate.

$50 Million Funding Spree for Crypto Startups

The panel at PlanB conference revealed an astounding $50 million funding pool aimed at catapulting crypto startups to the forefront. The funds will be meticulously allocated across a spectrum of cryptocurrency and blockchain domains including Bitcoin core development, Lightning Network development, and a Public Initiatives Fund for locally driven public-centric projects.

Centralized Blockchain Hub: A Future Abode for Innovators

Unveiling plans for a central blockchain hub comprising 16 offices and a co-working space in Lugano, set to open doors in March 2024, the city is poised to provide a nurturing environment for companies, developers, and entrepreneurs venturing into the blockchain sphere.

As Lugano continues to bolster its standing as a model city for cryptocurrency and blockchain innovation, the anticipation for the next PlanB conference in October 2024, marking the 3rd anniversary of the initiative’s launch, is already building up.
