Telegram's new mini app store to enhance blockchain activities

Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has revealed plans to introduce a mini app store, aiming to accelerate blockchain adoption and related activities. This strategic move comes as Telegram experiences significant growth in blockchain-related ventures throughout 2024.

Telegram’s Blockchain Surge

Durov announced the upcoming mini app store via his Telegram channel, emphasizing the platform’s pivotal role in the burgeoning blockchain industry. He stated that the mini app store is a crucial part of Telegram’s strategy to lead the industry and facilitate widespread blockchain adoption.

Telegram Tap-to-Earn Frenzy

Telegram’s announcement coincides with a surge in interest and adoption of the Telegram mini app (TMA) market. Tap-to-earn games, particularly Notcoin and Hamster Kombat, have gained substantial traction in recent months, showcasing the potential of Telegram-based blockchain applications.

The Open Network (TON) and Toncoin

Another significant player in this ecosystem is The Open Network (TON), a Layer-1 blockchain network whose native token, Toncoin, has seen notable growth. TON is positioned to further drive blockchain engagement within the Telegram community.

CEO’s Vision for 2024

“2024 will go down in history as the year when hundreds of millions of people became familiar with blockchain. We’re proud that Telegram is at the epicenter of this societal transformation. To keep the fire going, this month, we will introduce a mini app store and an in-app browser with support for Web3 pages,” Durov shared.

Combating Crypto Scams

Beyond promoting blockchain adoption, Telegram is also focused on combating scammers and fraudsters in the crypto market. This initiative includes displaying registration details, such as the month or country, for public accounts to increase transparency and security.

“We will also step up our efforts to fight the scammers seeking to defraud new entrants into the crypto realm. Soon, Telegram will begin displaying the month of registration and principal country for public accounts (similar to Instagram). We will also allow organizations to use their mini apps to issue labels for channels, creating a decentralized marketplace for third-party verification,” Durov added.

Telegram’s new initiatives highlight its commitment to becoming a major player in the blockchain industry while ensuring a safer environment for its users. As the year progresses, the introduction of the mini app store and enhanced security measures are set to significantly impact the blockchain landscape.
