Gaming DAO Addresses Recent Security Breach
A decentralized autonomous organization (DAO) focused on gaming has issued an urgent warning to its users following a recent security breach. The organization identified that a number of its accounts had been compromised and urged its community members to be vigilant, reminding them that no airdrops, new mints, or any other activities were planned.
Decentralized Game Publisher Responds to Hacking Incident
In a tweet published on July 24, the decentralized game publisher Treasure informed its community that two of its accounts, Playontreasure and Playbridgeworld, had been hijacked. The DAO cautioned users against interacting with any links shared by these accounts.
After regaining control of the compromised accounts on July 25, the organization stated that the issue had been resolved. Treasure has, however, remained silent on the details of the incident, such as the cause of the hack or potential victims affected by this security breach.
Rising Phishing Attempts in the Crypto Gaming Community
Despite the resolution of the recent incident, the gaming DAO has advised its users to remain cautious, citing a marked increase in phishing attempts within both its own community and the broader Arbitrum ecosystem.
Crypto Industry Leaders Urge Caution Amid Increasing Cyber Threats
The growing risk of phishing hacks is not only a concern for the gaming DAO. On July 21, Changpeng Zhao, the CEO of Binance, issued a warning about the escalating number of phishing hacks in the crypto sphere. Zhao advised users to switch to hardware-based two-factor authentication (2FA) systems instead of mobile carrier-based ones for improved security.
Challenges in Maintaining Security in the Crypto World
At the recent Ethereum Community Conference 6 in Paris, Polygon’s chief information security officer, Mudit Gupta, highlighted the challenges of maintaining security in the crypto world. Defenders must secure all potential entry points, while attackers only need to find one vulnerability to exploit. This imbalance makes the task of securing systems significantly more difficult.
