This Tool by Flashbot will Make Ethereum 2.0 More Decentralized

Flashbot recently introduced a new tool that will dilute centralization in Ethereum and other proof-of-stake tokens – the MEV-boost. The MEV-boost will be useful for validators, stakers, and node operators on the Ethereum network. The tool has been in development since 2020 and will continue to be upgraded to make block validation better.

What is the MEV-Boost?

The MEV-boost is a tool that separates the process of building blocks from the proposing blocks during the validation of transactions on a blockchain. Currently, on proof-of-stake blockchains, block producers are used to build and propose blocks. This makes the process of block creation and validation quite concentrated.

The MEV-boost will make it possible for validators to outsource block building to specialized parties. This will make the network more distributed.

If integrated into Ethereum 2.0, block validators will be able to sell their block space to other builders on the network. This will make the network and market more competitive for builders. A competitive market surely births improved revenue for network validators, and that’s one of the key things MEV-boost will achieve.

In the coming years, this proposer-builder mechanism will be a key model for block creation on the ETH network. Blockchain networks need as many reliable players as possible. That makes the network decentralized. The MEV-boost will give room for many more players to join the Ethereum network and compete.

MEV-Boost is Secure

One of the key objectives of MEV-boost is maintaining the security of the network. The tool’s design ensures that the worst possible malfunction of attack will lead to the loss of not more than one block. Additionally, if the software defaults the nodes have a backup plan, which is the local block production.

The software also permits validators to connect with several relays, as long as validators trust these relays. This helps to reduce the risk of censorship. Validators and node operators on the Ethereum network will definitely find this tool useful in the future.
