Grayscale Investments has quietly withdrawn its registration statements for exchange-traded funds tied to Cardano (ADA), Polkadot (DOT), and Hedera (HBAR), according to a CoinDesk report. The asset manager filed three separate requests with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission late Friday, signaling it no longer intends to proceed with the planned distributions.

Grayscale’s Quiet Retreat from Altcoin ETFs

The filings, submitted within minutes of each other, covered the Grayscale Cardano Trust, Grayscale Polkadot Trust, and Grayscale Hedera Trust. None of these offerings had become effective, and no securities were issued or sold. Grayscale initiated the withdrawals voluntarily, not as a result of SEC rejection, and offered no explanation—leaving the door open to resubmit if circumstances change.

Cardano’s Development Progress Amid ETF Uncertainty

Despite the withdrawal, Cardano continues to push forward with technical upgrades. The recent Cardano Van Rossum Hard Fork: Lower Fees, On-Chain Governance Control reflects ongoing network evolution that could strengthen its fundamentals for long-term investors, regardless of ETF product availability.

Volatility and the Broader Altcoin ETF Landscape

Market watchers may recall that Cardano and Stellar Act as Volatility Transmitters, Not Hedges: Pusan National Study, a characteristic that complicates risk assessment for ETF sponsors. Grayscale’s pullback could cool enthusiasm for other altcoin ETF proposals, particularly while regulatory clarity remains limited. Still, the absence of an outright SEC denial suggests that the path to approval may simply be paused rather than blocked.

The withdrawals highlight the tentative state of crypto ETF expansion beyond Bitcoin and Ethereum, with Grayscale’s move likely to be scrutinized by other issuers evaluating similar products.
