On the 18th of April, Algorand blockchain announced that it would be campaigning for greener earth in Times Square in New York. The plans to occupy the famous commercial center will motivate all to build a future with energy-efficient technologies.
The sensitization will be done on the 21st of April, popularly known as “Earth Day.” The commercials shown on the New York Times Square billboards will encourage viewers to support a greener future for the earth.
Algorand’s Earth Day Movement
The Algorand team intends to send a powerful message to the audience through a billboard blackout for some hours. The outage is meant to conserve power and bring a unique moment of calm to the ever-busy Times Square.
It is estimated that about 6500 kilowatts of power will be conserved every hour during the blackout. This energy is enough to sustain a network’s liveness for ten days. 6500 kilowatt is also enough to execute 350 million transactions on the blockchain.
The First Carbon-Negative Blockchain
The goal of the Algorand blockchain has always been to achieve speed, scalability, and decentralization without depleting the ecosystem. Since its inception, Algorand has been working towards building Carbon-negative technological solutions.
Algorand is the first pure proof-of-stake blockchain on the globe. The blockchain runs efficiently with minimal computational power and energy consumption. Transactions on the Algorand chain require 120 million times lesser energy than the Bitcoin blockchain.
In 2021, Algorand once again showed its commitment to sustainability and the green revolution by partnering with ClimateTrade. Algorand has been working closely with ClimateTrade to improve the efficiency of organizations working towards minimizing CO2 emissions around the world.
