The Casio-Polygon Labs Collaboration
Japanese electronics behemoth, Casio, is taking the leap into the digital domain in collaboration with Polygon Labs. The partnership aims to showcase virtual G-SHOCK watches that will leverage Polygon’s advanced protocols.
The NFT Community Access Pass Series
Casio is not just stopping at virtual watches. The brand is all set to roll out a series of community access passes rooted in NFT technology. A total of 15,000 NFT-based G-SHOCK creator passes will be available from September 23. Moreover, securing these passes will give users an exclusive entry into a Discord channel dedicated solely to this venture.
The distribution of these passes is meticulously planned in two phases. The initial phase, known as the pre-distribution phase, will run from Sep. 23-26 and will cater to individuals already registered with a CASIO ID. The subsequent public distribution phase is scheduled from Sept. 26-29.
A Strategic Move with a Backstory
The genesis of this move can be traced back to Casio’s recent trademark application filed on Aug. 22. This application covered an array of domains, encompassing virtual clothing, NFT media, watches, and even virtual storefronts. The G-SHOCK range, which stands as a testament to Casio’s prowess, is bound to witness a surge in its fanbase with this innovative NFT-based approach.
Community at the Heart of the Initiative
In a bid to engage the community, Casio has opened the gates for users to submit their design concepts for the G-SHOCK creator pass. This initiative doesn’t just stop at contributions – users will also have the power to vote and select a winning design which will later be incorporated into a special variant of the NFT pass.
Why Polygon?
Polygon’s capacity to support rapid transactions, ensuring an uncomplicated process for NFT creation and management, makes it the ideal choice for Casio’s Web3 expedition. Plus, the platform’s commitment to a carbon-neutral stance perfectly aligns with today’s sustainability ethos.
Industry Reactions and Alignment
Takahashi Oh, Senior General Manager of Timepieces at Casio, shared, “The co-creation of the Virtual G-Shock Project is not just a brand extension; it’s a stride towards nurturing a watch-wearing culture in the virtual realm.”
This move seamlessly aligns Casio with industry stalwarts like Starbucks, Adidas, and DraftKings, all of whom have embarked on the NFT journey with Polygon Labs at the helm.
