In recent decades, chess has evolved way beyond Championship games contended physically by legendary grandmasters. The ancient board game has gone modern as over 100 Million people play online chess regularly, competing in over 25 Million digital chess matches daily.
FIDE is one of the largest sports federations in existence. It’s a non-governmental organization that’s recognized by the international Olympic committee as a global sporting organization. They are responsible for regulating international chess matches and competitions.
Boasting a global audience of over 500 Million players, it has made a move to further introduce innovation to the game. With plans to evolve chess even further, they are utilizing Avalanche to power on-chain products, providing features like historical game explorer, digital trophies, tournament data, and player rating management.
Some of the innovations the public is expected to be privy to include, the publishing of tournament data on-chain, calculating official player rating on-chain, the addition of personalized experiences on-chain, the release of FIDE game explorer powered by on-chain game data, and issuing tournament prize pools.
Featuring its subnet technology and Ultra-fast transaction speed, Avalanche is undoubtedly the fastest, most reliable, eco-friendly smart contract platform in the world that would enable Web3 developers to easily launch such a highly-scalable project.
Ava Labs would be working closely with FIDE to employ Blockchain technology in tackling challenges related to chess. This includes ensuring operational efficiencies for players during chess matches, improvement of the integrity of the game, and onboarding new sets of players.
Emil Sutovsky, CEO of FIDE, expresses the organization’s excitement regarding the coming project and partnership with Ava labs which she described as a major driving force behind on-chain technologies. She further stated that the cooperation between the two bodies will unify the chess community and strengthen ties between players, clubs, federations, and FIDE.
The partnership kicks off at the 2022 World Rapid and Blitz Championship, one of FIDE’s flagship events, to be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, between December 25th and 30th.
With the popularity of chess, Crypto enthusiasts cannot wait to witness what the future holds for this partnership and its influence on the chess community at large.
Chess players all over the world are set to experience the Web3 space like never before.
