On the 28th of October 2022, Dedaub, one of the largest projects deployed on Fantom, integrated a new and powerful layer of security called watchdog.
Starting today, the largest projects deploying on Fantom got a powerful layer of security – Watchdog.

With the current hacking trends and the nature of security protocols which are limited to simple yet costly manual audits and bug bounties, there is a need for better security. One that is proactive.
And that is the reason behind the watchdog security protocol. Unlike current security protocols that are reactive after the hack, watchdog is aimed at monitoring and anticipating security problems and vulnerabilities. The watchdog solution combines four critical factors. That is years of static and formal research, complex blockchain events and processes, vulnerability detection patterns, and age-old human expertise.
It is a semi-automated protocol that works with humans to sniff out, classify, and rank vulnerabilities in a system. Sounds like a man’s best friend.
Dedaub is a project focused on providing security to web3 projects by combining their security expertise with advanced analysis technology. It provides the value of formal verification while reducing the need for human effort. And with the assistance of watchdog protocol, they have successfully identified multiple vulnerabilities and bug bounties of the past. One such example is a report from the Dedaub team on the 10th of January.
They identified a major vulnerability to the Multichain project, which was previously called Anyswap. Their write-up also illustrated the vulnerability’s technical aspects, i.e., the different attack vectors.
But the effects of the watchdog protocol aren’t limited to just Fantom. After these vulnerabilities are identified in any smart contract, the other blockchains would be warned since the structure of smart contracts is similar across the board. After Dedaub identified a forefront attack, the Dedaub team reached out to the Ethereum chain for instances of this trait. Other applicable projects were also warned.
Dedaub’s watchdog smart auditing system continuously evaluates smart contracts, and it has an attached smart contract library. All of these would be deployed on Fantom.
