NYSE Arca Approves Bitwise NEAR ETF for Listing

The Bitwise NEAR ETF has cleared its final exchange-level hurdle after NYSE Arca approved the listing application, according to a Blockchain Reporter report. The asset manager registered the fund’s shares with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission through a Form 8-A filing dated September 24, moving the product closer to a potential NYSE Arca listing.

The exchange approval arrives while crypto markets are absorbing short-term volatility. Bitcoin recently steadied near $84,459 before a major options expiry, as covered in BTC-Pulse’s Bitcoin Steadies Near $84,459 Before $18B Options Expiry. Broader risk appetite may remain sensitive to such positioning events even as new ETF products work through the regulatory pipeline.

What the Form 8-A confirms

The Form 8-A registration, signed by Bitwise chief operating officer Teddy Fusaro, registers the Bitwise NEAR ETF’s common shares of beneficial interest under Section 12(b) of the Securities Exchange Act. That does not guarantee a specific launch date, but it is a necessary step before the shares can trade on NYSE Arca. If completed, the fund would be positioned as the first U.S. spot ETF tied to NEAR Protocol, a layer-1 blockchain network used for decentralized applications. The product’s progress also lands while Washington’s digital asset policy debates remain unresolved. A previous BTC-Pulse report on the Treasury-Commerce Fight Stalls $20B Bitcoin Reserve Plan highlighted how institutional and government-facing crypto decisions are still taking shape.

For the broader crypto market, the approval arrives while traders are still gauging whether the latest bitcoin liquidation wave has run its course. A separate BTC-Pulse analysis, NDV View: Has Bitcoin Bottomed After $1.4B Short Squeeze?, examined positioning after a forced short squeeze. New ETF approvals may add another institutional access point, though market sentiment will still be driven by macro and on-chain conditions.

Fee, staking, and custody structure

The registration documents the ETF’s fee arrangement, approach to staking, and custody responsibilities. These details are likely to draw scrutiny because NEAR uses a proof-of-stake consensus mechanism, meaning staking treatment and asset custody differ from spot bitcoin or ether products. Investors and market participants will be watching whether the final structure provides a workable path for regulated exposure to a staking-based layer-1 asset.

What the approval means for NEAR

For the NEAR ecosystem, the exchange-level approval is a notable distribution milestone, but it is not the final word on product availability or investor demand. The fund must still clear any remaining regulatory and operational steps before shares begin trading. The market may treat the approval as a sign of broadening institutional interest, though actual inflows and trading activity will determine the longer-term impact.

The ETF’s path will also depend on how crypto markets digest macro events and whether issuers can produce transparent staking and custody solutions that satisfy U.S. regulators. If successful, the Bitwise NEAR ETF would give traditional investors another regulated vehicle for altcoin exposure without holding the underlying asset directly.
