SVRN has moved from treasury holder to core infrastructure operator for NEAR Protocol. In an October 15, 2026 release, SVRN announced the completion of an initiative to build out and secure the multi-party computation (MPC) operator network behind NEAR Chain Signatures. The company authored the incentive program that funds 17 independent operators, carried the proposal through NEAR governance, vetted each onboarding operator, and now runs its own node in tamper-resistant hardware.
How NEAR Chain Signatures shifts cross-network custody
Chain Signatures lets a single NEAR account hold and move assets on more than 30 blockchain networks without a separate wallet or private key for each chain. The signing key is split among 17 independent operators, and at least 11 must cooperate to produce a signature. That threshold means no operator ever sees the whole key, and a single compromise cannot move funds. SVRN’s role extends beyond treasury exposure; it also set the qualification standards for network participants. The shift is part of a broader institutional embrace of network-linked assets. BTC-Pulse recently tracked adjacent treasury activity in BitMine Adds 12,532 ETH as Buying Nears Completion.
The migration completed by SVRN moved every operator node into hardware whose contents can be independently verified. That reduces the need to trust operator statements alone and adds a check against stealth compromises or configuration drift. Because the node environment can be attested, both the network and external observers can verify that the split-key signing process is running inside the expected secure boundary. SVRN also joined the network as an operator in its own right, adding another independent party to the 11-of-17 signing threshold.
What the infrastructure upgrade means for NEAR adoption
NEAR Intents, the settlement layer that uses Chain Signatures, has already processed more than $34 billion in cross-network volume. Removing bridges and custodians from the transaction path matters for users and automated agents because it reduces the number of third parties that can fail, freeze funds, or become a target. The operator migration also strengthens the case for AI agents that need to transact across chains without managing multiple keys. That trend is visible in the broader institutional pivot, including the treasury accumulation reviewed in BitMine Acquires 15,112 ETH, Nears 5% Ownership Goal.
Governance approval for the incentive program provides a template for how a publicly listed company can coordinate protocol infrastructure without directly controlling the network. The near-term watch items are whether more operators adopt verifiable hardware standards, how NEAR Intents volumes respond after the migration, and whether other Layer 1 networks replicate the operator-incentive structure for cross-chain signing.
