The Sandbox Joins Hands with the British Museum
The Sandbox, a leading metaverse development platform, announced on July 27 its new collaboration with the British Museum. The goal of this partnership is to bring the museum’s extensive collection into the metaverse, allowing users worldwide to explore and discover history in an immersive way.

laCollection’s Role in the Collaboration
This collaboration is not limited to The Sandbox and the British Museum. Web3 platform laCollection, the museum’s licensing partner, is also on board. LaCollection is renowned for its work with leading museums worldwide, digitizing art and making it accessible in the digital space.
Other Museums in the Metaverse
The British Museum’s entrance into the Web3 space marks a new milestone. However, it is not the first major museum to venture into the metaverse.
Last spring, the Centre Pompidou in France, a prominent modern art museum, unveiled an exhibition at the intersection of art and blockchain. This exhibition showcased coveted NFT collections, including CryptoPunks and Autoglyphs.
Additionally, the Kharkiv Art Museum in Ukraine launched an NFT collection to support its operations and cultural heritage preservation efforts.
In Belgium, the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp made history as Europe’s first museum to tokenize a classic art masterpiece.
The Metaverse and Art
Last year, Decentraland, another metaverse platform, held its Metaverse Art Week. This event showcased various interactive exhibitions of digital art, including an immersive experience centered around the life and works of the famous painter Frida Kahlo.
